Peterborough Football
Thank you to Alan Malt for the kind use of this photograph, and for his memories.

Below is a photo of Peterborough United football main stand as it was prior to the existing stand being built.
Alan, who has kindly shared both the photo and his memories, is reasonably confident that he took this photograph when Peterborough played Hull City in a friendly benefit match for three local players, namely Cyril Parrot, who played left back and lived in Huntly Road, Woodston, Bernie Bryan, who played right back and lived in the New England area, and Cliff Woods, local but Alan doesn't know where, he played wing half.
Alan remembers the ground being packed, and Raich Carter, who had been an outstanding player himself, was the manager of Hull City.
Alan, still has the program, and has guessed that it was in 1958.
Alan remembers that the top section of each end of the stand had panes of glass to protect the people sitting in the stand in bad weather. Attached in front of them, but not by very much were lengths of chicken wire supposedly to protect people sitting in the stand from any broken glass. But it didn't. Alan remembers sitting there with his father at one match, his father sitting only a few seats from the side and me next to him but further away, and a pane of glass was hit and glass went flying over many people around us. They never went in the stand again. It wouldn't be allowed today.
